Ioulia Chante is a Greek architect and ceramicist based in Malta, and the craftsperson behind Babau Ceramics.
Since 2018, she has been working in the Maltese construction sector, where she was deeply inspired by the island’s rich heritage of craftsmanship. This cultural influence sparked her interest in clay and its diverse techniques.

With a background and upbringing rooted in handmade processes, Ioulia has always been drawn to material exploration. Since 2019, she has been passionately dedicated to working with clay, a therapeutic and expressive medium that enables emotional storytelling through form. Clay continues to fuel her curiosity and imagination, pushing her to explore its full potential while deepening her understanding of technique, structure, and material chemistry.

Her practice centers on creating both functional and sculptural pieces, often blending the two in a playful dialogue. Through this synthesis, she explores themes related to the human condition and emotional states within contemporary society.
