Saffi

Tableware collection
Photography Editorial 2024
Creative Direction by Christian Grech

“Saffi” is a tableware collection using the Maltese term for “layers”, due to the
ridged and layered design of most of the pieces.

The ceramics were presented as found archaeological objects on a remote beach; ancient artefacts from a bygone era. The geological strata on display at this rocky location further emphasise the collection’s visual language.
A particular focus was also made on the maker’s hands and the raw clay. Babau Ceramics prides itself on honesty and authenticity – irregularities are not seen as defects, but rather, as a celebration of materiality and process.
